We arrived arrived at Two Harbors late Sunday, 10/7, at the end of Buccannear Days weekend. We intentionally missed the party as we aren't seriously into the whole pirate thing. We didn't plan on stopping at Two Harbors, but as we were going by we decided to stop there rather than go another two hours to get to Avalon. So there were several people wandering around in pirate costumes or pirate themed clothes. The decorations were still up. It was pretty amusing. Aargh!!
On Tuesday we headed down to Avalon and stayed three nights. Avalon is a cruise ship destination so there are lots of shops, restaurants and it's a fun town to wander around in for a few days. They also have a grocery store and hardware store- very nice.
Friday we headed back to Two Harbors. It was "cruiser's weekend" so there were seminars on Saturday, on the beach. Best seminar location ever! The ambiance was great. And there was a band on Friday and Saturday nights. We met people from several other boats who are also going to Mexico in November.
Tiki in Avalon
In Avalon we were next to the most interesting boat in the harbor. The Casino to the right of the boat is the major landmark in town. It's a very cool building with art deco tile murals.
Tiki and Luna at Two Harbors. This is in Isthmus Harbor.
Here's Cat Harbor. The island is only a few hundred feet across in this area, thus the name Two Harbors. We`stayed in the other harbor.
Here's Emerald Star next to the cliff in the almost empty harbor. Every mooring was taken during the weekend, all 250 of them.
Tiki: So we were finally able to go on shore and we soon found out about an unofficial "off leash" area from some of the local dogs. So Luna and I are running around like maniacs. Well, there's this plant here that I've never seen before. Cactus, Prickly Pear Cactus. All I have to say is don't even go there. I tried to run through and over a huge clump of it and got a whole bunch of these needles all over me. The people said I looked like I was part of a medical study on the effects of randomized acupuncture. I didn't think it was very funny though. Diane was able to remove all of the needles. The next few days I remembered to stay away from the cactus.
