Emerald Star

La Paz to Loreto

We left La Paz May 3rd and went out to the islands. Then we headed north, very slowly, along the east side of Baja.

Isla San Francisco

The wildlife on Isla San Francisco. These crabs are just about everywhere we go.

San Evaristo.....They did not have electricity or phone service, but they had salt ponds that are producing salt. The town had a grocery store so it was nice to get a few fresh veggies. There were several places to hike with good vistas. It was overcast though, so most of the pictures didn't turn out well.

The burros (or something like that) at San Evaristo. Tiki was very brave and sniffed noses with the brown one.

Isla San Jose- the Amortajada area at the south end of the island

Isla San Jose - mangroves at the south end

Isla San Jose- Bahia Salinas at the north end. We walked in and around the salt works buildings, and equipment, that were abandoned in the 1950's.

Los Gatos (aka El Gato). The rocks here are amazing. There was not much there except rocks, beaches and cattle. Beautiful spot!!

Aqua Verde - the bay

Aqua Verde - there is room for lots of boats.

This is the view of the goat farms. The local grocery store had fresh goat cheese that was amazing! The goats walked on the beach every evening.

One of the coves at Aqua Verde.

Agua Verde is a great little town. They also have no electricity except for the random small solar panel on a roof. There is a restaurant, the Aqua Verde Restaurant, it has one table on the front porch of a house. They had  eggs and quesadillas on the "menu". For beverages they had beer, no soda, just beer, one brand. But it was cold since it was stored in an Igloo cooler. We were there at 11:00 a.m. and we had beer and quesadillas for lunch. It was good.

Candeleros Chico is a very small bay south of Puerto Escondido. It was gorgeous and had great hiking and snorkeling. The next several pictures are of Candeleros Chico.

Ray and the girls in the shade

Luna on the beach.

Tiki checking out the bay.

The desert flowers were in bloom.

Luna in the tidepools.

More desert flowers.

The bay to the south of Candeleros Chico.

Another very cool tree.

The cactus were just about to bloom, you can see the flowers just starting to come out on the sides.

Luna the Lounge Lizard

Isla Carmen - Punta Colorada

Isla Carmen - Bahia Salinas. This saltworks was abandoned in the 1980's.

Loreto-the main shopping street for the tourists.

The bay at Bahia Cobre on Carmen Island

The rocks on the beach at Bahia Cobre had just about every color imaginable.

The view from the boat of the marina at Puerto Escondido

The view of the Sierra de la Giganta range from the boat at Puerto Escondido. The changing shadows and colors at sunrise were amazing. The mountains are over 3000 feet and almost straight up. We were in this spot for two weeks. It was a good place to be while Ray went back to the states for a short visit. The "girls" stayed here enjoying the views and warm water. Diane did some boat projects while Luna and Tiki watched and slept.

There are now way too many pages on this website. So we decided to put this whole area into one page. We've made many stops since leaving La Paz. We stay a night or two, or maybe three, at each place. Some places the photos weren't that interesting, sometimes the photos were great. Much depends on the weather, clouds, etc.

Loreto area.....

For six weeks or so we zigzagged between the islands, Loreto (groceries), Juncalito (dog paradise) and Puerto Escondido (laundry). We'd go to Loreto for a day to buy groceries and catch up on internet stuff, then go to the islands for days. Pyramid Cove on Isla Danzante was great! We were there for 5 days. We've been to most of the anchorages at Isla Carmen (the favorite being Puerto Ballandra) and we've been to Isla Coronados three times. We headed north from Loreto in Mid July.
