Emerald Star

Morro Bay

Morro Bay has a beautiful harbor and is a fun, low key place to be. The really interesting places we went were:

The Elfin Forest near Los Osos had amazing views and very interesting plants. We were able to get there because our friend Brian loaned us a car for the whole time we were in town - whoohoo! We didn't know about the forest until Brian mentioned it. He said to check it out if we had time. It was well worth it but we didn't have the camera with us. Oh well.

The sand spit- from the boat we dinghied over to the sand spit between the harbor and the ocean and followed the trail (near the red flag) across to the beach. Most of the spit is reserve for plover nesting so it is off limits. But there is a well marked trail that goes through it. There are no cars or people so it was just wild sand dunes and then the beach was almost deserted. Again, we didn't have the camera. Oops! So we went back a few days later with the camera.

Of course we wandered around town a bunch and did a few little projects on the boat.

The other thing to do is talking with the other cruisers about the weather, ocean conditions and when to leave. That is a favorite, and very important, activity at the Morro Bay Yacht Club dock.

Tiki - "What the heck is Ray doing up there????"

He's fixing the broken trilight and the bent windex.

Early morning in Morro Bay

Morro Bay is about halfway between San Francisco and Los Angeles. There isn't a lot of pavement here, and that's a good thing! It is a beautiful area.
