Emerald Star

San Blas

San Blas is a small town that the developers haven’t bothered with, yet. On arrival we anchored nearby in Matanchen Bay since we were pretty tired. We just napped and read books for a day. It was nice to have some solitude after the big city of Mazatlan. The next day we moved into the estuary anchorage near town.

The main thing to do in San Blas is hang out at the plaza. It’s very busy at night, but there are always people there talking, relaxing, people watching, etc. regardless of the time of day. People just stop and chat with complete strangers. For a few blocks all around there are restaurants, street vendors, shops, etc. Every day we went into town and just wandered around and went to the plaza. There are more bicycles than cars. The streets are brick or stone. The town has a very old fashioned feel to it.

One end of the plaza has an old church, with the new (the yellow one) church next door.

The “girls” at the square.

The landscaping is very tropical and the buildings are almost always painted very bright, cheery colors. The fountain doesn't have water. We heard the kids kept jumping into it so the city got rid of the water.

Just about everywhere in Mexico the metalwork is very interesting.

Tiki here........At low tide we would go to the sand bar in the anchorage so Luna and I could run off leash for a bit. Diane and Ray wouldn't let us go into the mangroves though. Everytime we went exploring, they'd call us back. Something about a crocodile refuge up the river. I don't know what a crocodile is, but I don't see why it was a big deal. You know, us girls just want to have some fun.
